Race perfect
PERFECT spring weather greeted thousands of racegoers at last weekend’s Avoca Cup.
The Avoca racecourse was a sea of people and colour for the running of the annual race.
While the racing was the main attraction, there was plenty going on behind the scenes.
Fashions on the Field attracted dozens of entrants as both men and women dressed in their finest strutted the catwalk.

Celebrating 100 years
THE Avoca Ladies Golf Club members celebrated 100 years on Sunday.
President Carmel Briody welcomes 24 present and past members before handing over to club stalwart Melva Burns who joined the club in 1960 and has been a continuous member for 64 years.
In usual Melva style, she started off her reminiscing with a joke which brought many a chuckle.
Lights On
THE Australian and Victorian governments in partnership with Pyrenees Shire Council have marked the completion of a high quality lighting upgrade at Beaufort’s Goldfields Recreation Reserve.
The more than $630,000 project was supported by $236,155 from the Australian Government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, $250,000 from the Victorian Government and more than $145,000 from the Pyrenees Shire Council.
The project, benefiting Beaufort’s sporting clubs, was a significant undertaking and included a full electrical system upgrade, completed by Powercor, to enable the power capacity for upgraded lighting.
