Historical societies showcase their collections
HISTORICAL societies in the northern area of the shire showcased their work and collections to each other on Wednesday as a way of sharing knowledge and strengthening local history networks.
About ten members and officeholders from various historical groups around the Pyrenees started the day at the Landsborough and District Historical Group’s Barkly Room where they were able to view the extensive historical displays.
The day also included a vistit to the old Police watchhouse in Moonambel and the old Avoca Courthouse.

Could it be third time lucky for Dyson?
RADIO host Alex Dyson has announced he will make a third run for the seat of Wannon at the next federal election.
Mr Dyson made his announcement on Wednesday, saying he was “extremely honoured” to be running as a candidate.
It will be his third attempt to win the seat off the Liberals Dan Tehan.
Lights On
THE Australian and Victorian governments in partnership with Pyrenees Shire Council have marked the completion of a high quality lighting upgrade at Beaufort’s Goldfields Recreation Reserve.
The more than $630,000 project was supported by $236,155 from the Australian Government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, $250,000 from the Victorian Government and more than $145,000 from the Pyrenees Shire Council.
The project, benefiting Beaufort’s sporting clubs, was a significant undertaking and included a full electrical system upgrade, completed by Powercor, to enable the power capacity for upgraded lighting.
Charity run comes to Beaufort
FORMER AFL great and media commentator Kane Cornes will be in Beaufort in September as part of an ambitious fundraising effort for a children’s cancer charity.
