Candidate – Paul Callanan

Hi I’m Paul Callanan and I live and work in the Beaufort Ward where I am standing for council in this very important election.

Lyn and I have had 5 children and now our youngest is in year 11 at Beaufort Secondary School whilst the older ones are in Melbourne pursuing their careers as a paramedic, nurse, qualified bricklayer and plumber.

I’m a senior executive and an import freight operator.

I have run my own business for over 20 years and before that held roles such as looking after 77 drivers supervisors and operational staff for a large bus company.

Before that I was a liquor licensee for LiquorLand in my younger days.

Buy the The Pyrenees Advocate print edition, which has full coverage of all the region’s news and sport.

I see my role to represent YOU and to advocate on your behalf first and foremost.

Accountability and stooping the financial waste are a priority.

We as a community need to be treated with respect when we contact the council and be able to get past reception to have our issue solved.

Which brings me to the work from home issue. I believe all council staff should come to work 5 days a week and work from home should finish.

If elected I will work:

  • To ensure that the designated Industrial Zone is managed correctly and not become a place to store junk and broken items.
  • To reduce the speed limit to 80kmh on approach to town from the Ballarat side.
  • To build relationships with VicRoads to have our road repaired.
  • To upgrade drainage in parts of Beaufort that are inadequate.
  • To develop a young persons program to attract young voices and minds to council.
  • To ensure any money received for the old primary school is spent on the project.
  • To develop an off leash dog park for visitors and locals with plenty of spots for free doggie bags.
  • Work on a beautification program for the town including the removal of all the broken kerb and channel bent signs and weeds around infrastructure
  • Work on improved signage to our resources such as the RV park and get the entrance fixed and drain cleaned out so as we can give people a much better experience whether you live here or visit .
