Ron Eason – Candidate for Avoca Ward

Ron Eason is a candidate for the Avoca Ward in this year’s election. Read his story here.

I would like to thank the Pyrenees Advocate for the opportunity to write this article.

I have been on council for twelve years and have worked with many councillors and staff who are the engine room of our service to you the residents.

Over those years I have learnt to listen to those who want change and those who do not and then sit down with my fellow councillors and decide what we think is best for the Shire.

We have not always got it right depending on who you talk to, but I believe we have tried to make the best decision every time.

The Pyrenees Shire is where my wife and I set up our life after moving to Avoca and taking over the Newsagency.

This led to my being asked to stand for council and being elected.

My understanding of how Council works improved over my first term and continues to this day as legislation changes and our needs as a Shire change.

My role has always been to improve the Shire and the lives of the residents wherever I can. I think the job of the Council is for the Shire to be better than when we were elected.

You can judge if we have achieved this result but know that has always been my goal.

Financial sustainability is the most important element of our task currently and can derail the Shire if neglected.

Our funds are harder to obtain and reducing every year as costs rise faster than our income.

I will continue to reflect the needs of you the resident in the budget of the Shire, so we do not waste funds on unnecessary expenses.

I am always available to talk to if you have an issue and want you to feel confident I will be able to find out an answer for you.

The honour of representing you as your Councillor has always been something I cherish and will always be thankful of the support I have received from you.
